Wind Song Farms welcomed back Top Dressage Trainer Nancy M. Smith and Assistant Trainer Mary Anne Milleman who returned to join us as resident trainers for the Winter Season 2010. Nancy and Mary Anne welcomed their local and out of state clients to Wind Song for a great winter season. Their clients receive top level training from beginner to Grand Prix.


Royal Waltz placed 11th and Hudson, placed 7th in the United States Young Horse Championships.

Royal Waltz has covered a lot of territory in the year that Nancy has owned him. He has traveled from California to Florida then to Ohio. Through the summer, he competed in Ohio, Michigan and Illinois and has recently returned to Florida for the winter season. He has gone from First Level to Fourth and proven that he has the goods to become a top upper level horse by placing 11th in the nation in the hotly contested FEI for 6 year old division at the United States Young Horse Championships.

Hudson surprised everyone by finishing 7th in the nation in the FEI 5 year old division only three months after arriving from Germany. He had the arduous task of having only two shows to qualify for the Championships, proving that he has the temperament and the grace to become a top FEI competitor.


Mary Anne and Fidelity moved through the Third level tests over the summer, taking the blue ribbon on more than one occasion in competitions in Ohio, Michigan and Illinois. They will be making their debut at Fourth Level this winter season in Florida.

Central Florida Dressage members eagerly awaited the return of Erin Brinkman and were enthusiastic participants at Erin’s clinic at Wind Song Farms.  Erin has a wonderful style of teaching that draws the student into a place of relaxed and pleasant learning. 
Erin rode Bella Luna to win the Region 3 Championships at Grand Prix and Intermediare II.

On January 31, Wind Song Farms hosted the Central Florida Dressage Association clinic with Nancy M. Smith. Nancy also arranged for County Saddlery to do a short seminar on saddle fitting. Michael Stahlschmidt of Sideline Sports Photography LLC was on-hand to capture truly professional photos of the entire event. The enthusiastic group received top notch instruction and enjoyed a memorable stay at Wind Song Farms.

Lake County Sheriff’s Mounted Posse Trains at Wind Song Farms - 5/23/09

The Special Operations Division of the Lake County Sheriff's Office contains a very specialized unit. The Lake County Sheriff’s Mounted Patrol.

The Mounted Unit consists of four sworn deputies and their horses and 20 Civilian Volunteers and their horses. These Deputies and Volunteers perform various types of patrols, civic functions and searches for missing persons and/or criminals.

The Mounted Posse competes at the International Police Olympics each year where they have won top honors in Equitation, Jumping, Obstacles, Speed events, Inspection and Team Ride competitions. Our Lake County Posse has over 5 Grand Champions from this competition.

The Sheriff's Mounted Unit is utilized for security in the Lake Square Mall. The Rider sits high above the cars, which provides better visibility. This has proven very useful in deterring crime, particularly over the Christmas Holidays when the mall is very busy.

The Mounted Unit is also used during any searches for missing persons or evidence. The horse enables the riders who cover a large area in a short amount of time.

As in all cases of volunteer efforts, not only do they bring a tangible expertise, but the heart and soul of people looking to help other people.

In the event of a major emergency, natural disaster or any other critical event, the Mounted Posse stands ready to be activated to handle or assist in whatever the Sheriff’s Office deems necessary.

In effort to help teach the community about search and rescue, members of the Posse have started their own Auxiliary. The members teach other equestrians how to assist with grid and evidence searches, about the ways to protect themselves while in the woods and assists them in learning what to do if someone is lost.

History and service run rich through the Sheriff's Posse of Lake County. Although not all of their exciting history and activities have been mentioned, suffice it to say that members from beginning to present have carried a well deserved banner of service to the Sheriff's Office, the community and tradition of Posses everywhere.
